The Church is not a building. It is the place where you are

After generations on these streets, the parish is still doing the only thing it has ever known how to do: opening its doors at six in the morning, lighting the candles, and waiting.

II.

What we believe.

An essay, in two columns, on why the parish still exists.

The Catholic Church teaches that Christ founded a visible community on the apostles, a community that endures through the centuries — through scandals and councils, through periods of fervor and periods of forgetting — because He promised it would. This parish is one outpost of that community, and our central work has not changed.
There is no part of an ordinary human life that the Church has not been entrusted to walk through with you.
We are not in the business of entertainment or self‑improvement. We are in the business of holiness — and holiness is something one mostly receives, slowly, from being near things that are themselves holy: the Eucharist, the Word, the saints, and one another.
If you have stumbled onto this page wondering whether there is room for you here, the answer is yes. There has always been room. There is room because Christ has made room.
